Roxio's Toast 6 Lite To Ship With Sony's Next Generation External Double Layer Drives

Bundle Provides Quick and Comprehensive Double Layer Burning Solution for the Mac

Santa Clara, California - (November 16, 2004) - Roxio®, a division of Sonic Solutions® (NASDAQ: SNIC), the leader in digital media software, announced today that its award winning Toast 6 Lite will be bundled with the Sony DRX-710 UL-T Dual RW DVD+R DL recorder in order to provide a complete double layer burning solution for the Mac platform.

Together with the Toast DVD+R Double Layer capabilities, this state-of-the-art external drive will enable Mac users to burn nearly twice the amount of personal data (from 4.7GB to 8.5GB), or record more than three hours of MPEG-2 (DVD-quality) video content on a single DVD+R DL disc more quickly and easily than was possible on previous DVD drive series. In addition to double layer recording capabilities, the DRX-710UL -T will support both DVD-RW and DVD+RW formats at 4x speed, the DVD + R formats at 16 x speed, the DVD-R format at 8x speed, the CD-R format at 48x speed and the CD-RW at 24x speed.

"Sony continues to be a forerunner in DVD technology, and by including Toast 6 Lite with our external DVD drives we can now offer Mac customers a complete solution for DVD and CD burning, as well as satisfy their needs for higher capacity double layer disc recording," said Robert DeMoulin, Marketing Manager for branded storage products in Sony Electronics' IT Products Division.

"We are very pleased to be working with Sony, a company whose brand is synonymous with reliability and innovation to businesses and consumers alike," said Dave Cornella, Director of OEM Business, Roxio. "We believe that Sony's decision to include Toast 6 Lite with their most comprehensive external DVD drive to date is validation of Toast's reputation, feature depth, and technical leadership."

With Toast 6 and the Sony DRX-710UL - T drive, businesses will have the power and flexibility to burn and store a large volume of data or digital media files quickly and easily in any DVD format. Consumers will benefit from the ability to back up non-encrypted dual-layer DVDs without having to first compress to fit onto a single layer recordable DVD, a step which can sacrifice video quality.

Toast 6 Lite includes the following powerful Double Layer capabilities:

  • Data format - backup and create data discs with up to 8.5 GB of data on a single DL DVD disc
  • Copy format - create one-click copies of non-encrypted dual-layer DVD movies
  • Video format - author DVDs with more than three hours of video

Toast 6 Lite also includes the following CD and DVD recording features:

  • Data - data disc compression, 128-bit encryption and password protection
  • Copy - 1-click copy of non-encrypted CDs, DVDs or disc images
  • Audio - create standard audio CDs with CD-TEXT from nearly any QuickTime audio file
  • Photo - Archive photos to CD or create slideshows on DVD for playback on a computer or set-top DVD player
  • Video - Author DVDs for playback on computers or set-top DVD players from nearly any QuickTime video file
