Philips to Supply Adaptec's Easy CD Creator and DirectCD Software with Home and Professional CD-ReWritable Drive Offerings

MILPITAS, May 24, 2000 - Adaptec, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADPT), the global leader in innovative storage solutions, today announced that Philips Optical Storage will include both Adaptec's Easy CD Creator 4.0 and DirectCD software with all Philips 400 and 800 series CD-ReWritable (CD-RW) drives.

"Easy CD Creator 4.0 offers the advanced features and exceptional versatility desired by users of Philips' CD-ReWritable drives," said Brett Bernhardt, Marketing Manager of Philips Optical Storage. "In addition, DirectCD will add greater functionality to the CD-ReWritable drive solution for writing, amending and storing small files. Adding these Adaptec products to the 400 and 800 series portfolio enables greater customer reach in achieving excellent solutions and applications."

Adaptec's Easy CD Creator 4.0 is currently the most powerful CD recording software available. Users can easily create data or audio CDs, record downloaded Internet music (including MP3 files), and make personal CD labels, covers and inserts. Used with the Philips drive, Easy CD Creator is also ideal for data backup and multimedia projects.

Users can also upgrade to the Easy CD Creator Deluxe, which further expands the ability of the full-featured Philips drive by including utilities like CD Spin Doctor for converting tapes and LPs to CDs and improving sound quality, Take Two for system backup and disaster recovery, and Photo Relay for creating photo and HTML albums, as well as video postcards.

Also included with the Philips drives, DirectCD from Adaptec helps further simplify CD-RW use. With DirectCD, customers can write small amounts of data packets to the CD, eliminating wasted overhead and the risk of data transfer interruptions. DirectCD also lets customers randomly erase separate files instead of erasing the entire CD.
