NEC Computers International to Include Adaptec's Easy CD Creator and DirectCD Software with Selected Packard Bell PC Lines

Milpitas, CA, August 22, 2000 - Adaptec, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADPT), the global leader in innovative storage solutions, today announced that NEC Computers International will bundle Adaptec Easy CD Creator 4.0 software, including DirectCD, throughout it's upcoming range of Packard Bell PCs.

"Our new high-end solutions, which will be in stores in Fall 2000, are designed to offer maximum power through a broad range of hardware and software. By integrating Adaptec's Easy CD Creator 4.0 and DirectCD in our new high-end solutions, we will provide our customers with the best performance and quality available," said Eric Gervais, Packard Bell's product marketing director. "With Adaptec's new products, Packard Bell customers will find it easier to listen to their favorite music how and when they want to."

Adaptec's Easy CD Creator 4.0 is currently the most popular CD recording software available. Users can easily create data or audio CDs and make personal CD labels, covers and inserts. Easy CD Creator is also ideal for data backup and multimedia projects. Users can also upgrade to Easy CD Creator 4.0 Deluxe, which further expands the abilities of the Packard Bell brand drive by including utilities such as CD Spin Doctor for converting tapes and LPs to CDs and improving sound quality, Take Two for system backup and disaster recovery, and Photo Relay for creating photo and HTML albums, as well as video postcards.

In addition, NEC Computers International will include DirectCD from Adaptec in the Easy CD Creator 4.0 bundle, further simplifying CD-RW use. DirectCD extends the functionality of Easy CD Creator 4.0 so that the Packard Bell brand PC drive appears as another drive letter on the system, allowing users to write to, erase from, or rename files on a CD-RW disc as easily as if it were a hard disk or a huge floppy disk.

Easy CD Creator 4.0 was rated "Product of the Year" by PC Magazine France in its Trophies 2000 Award Ceremony and has received numerous awards from other European publications such as PC Intern Germany, Family PC Spain, and PC World UK.

"A variety of CD utilities and a user-friendly interface make Easy CD Creator easy to use without sacrificing quality or performance," said Tom Shea, general manager of Adaptec's Software Products Group. "Because Adaptec's software makes moving, managing and protecting digital content simple for the average user, Easy CD Creator 4.0 continues to be selected by top manufacturers of CD-R and CD-RW drives."
